Dr Abdoul Wahab Cissé
Regional Coordinator
Dr Cissé holds degrees in sociology and political science. He was associate professor of political science at UCAO-IMES in Dakar, Senegal for 13 years while working as an expert for the think tank Alliance pour Refonder la Gouvernance en Afrique (ARGA). For several years, he has been a member of research consortia awarded grants under the EU's Horizon 2020 initiative, within which he participated in project drafting and supervised local research (Mali, Niger) as part of two EU-funded projects, namely EUNPACK (EUNPACK Final Conference: synthesising three years of research on the EU’s crisis response | NUPI) and PREVEX under the scientific coordination of the NUPI (Norvegian Institute of International Affairs
International Research Achievements
Dr Cissé has also been involved in applied research, participating in other research projects which have all resulted in publications. These other research projects include one on taxation in so-called fragile states, on jihadist governance in the Sahel, on the violent entrepreneurs in the Sahel, on the dynamics of resistance in the Islamic world. Another example is the research project on sharing experiences in improving resource mobilization (revenue, taxation, etc.) in different countries.
Within the framework of other partnerships, Dr. Cissé participated in the design and execution of a research project on EU migration policy in the Sahel through the prism of the anti-migrant law passed in Niger, financed by the FaFo foundation. An analysis of the consequences of the law's vote on the local economy of the city of Agadez was carried out using field interviews by Dr. Cissé and his team of local investigators.
Research activities in Senegal
In Senegal, one of Dr. Cissé’s most recent research activities was the NDI(National Democratic Institute)-funded study of citizen movements in Senegal in the context of term limits. Previously, in collaboration with Pr Babacar Gueye’s CERAG (Centre d’Etude et de Recherche sur la Gouvernance),
Dr Abdoul Wahab Cissé took part in the following studies:
- the cost of politics, in partnership with Westminister Foundation for Democracy (WFD);
- the contribution of local authorities to peace and security in West Africa, in partnership with UNOWAS-CERAG;
- governance of agricultural inputs, OSIWA-CERAG.
Finally, Dr Cissé has conducted various project evaluations in both Senegal and Burkina Faso. He was also grants manager in the Evaluation and Quality Assurance department of the American NGO Colorado Coalition for the Homeless in Denver, Colorado.
